Excursions/trips

Gambia is a relative small country at the atlantic coast of Africa but there is a lot to see and experience.  Of course it is tempting to relax on the beautiful beaches (or at the pool of JaGambia) but to see and experience The Gambia you have to go out. Haruna is a very good and experienced driver and guide and he loves to show his country and tell about the culture and history.  There are of course the ‘hot-spots’ to visit: the big or local markets, musea, places that show the history of slavery, the natural parcs and river to see the ‘wildlife’ of Gambia (monkeys, crocodiles, hippos, dolphins, and a big variety of birds).

But to experience and feel, see, hear, smell and taste the real life Haruna can also take you to inner country villages,  schools, charity-projects, a local football match or the very popular wrestling games. Or just a walk in the neighbourhood, meeting the people around us and see the local way of living.  Go to the nearest beachbar and have djembe-lessons on the beach. Join Zena to the (fish)market and buy the ingredients for lunch/dinner together. She will cook a nice meal or prepare the meal with you and teach you how to make local dishes.

And of course you should not miss a boattrip in a wooden canoe or a bigger boat; fishing or just discovering the beauty of nature around the river, the mangrove and all the birds. And if you are lucky you might see hippos, dolphins or crocodiles.

Also trips further away, even to senegal, with a stay-over in an lodge or bushcamp, are possible.

You can express your interests to Haruna and together with him plan a trip.

Also when you are not staying at JaGambia it is possible to make excursions/trips with Haruna. (use ‘contact’ at homepage)
